《武汉共识:新地学教育倡议》发布

11月6日,在建校七十周年校庆之际,中国地质大学(武汉)以“宜居地球:研究型大学的使命与挑战”为主题,举办中外大学校长论坛。国内外地球科学领域知名研究型大学代表、中小学校长和学者通过线上线下方式齐聚,共同探讨地球宜居性面临的重大挑战,畅谈教育在维护和增进地球宜居性方面的使命责任与行动路径。论坛决定共同发布《武汉共识:新地学教育倡议》(以下简称《共识》)。

 

《共识》强调,人类的共同命运决定于宜居地球。《共识》倡议,顺应地球系统科学的发展和时代需要,在多元宇宙观下重新认识和定义人类在世界的位置和生存方式,调整和优化地学教育的价值体系、知识体系和传播体系,形成更加多元、更加综合、更加开放的地学教育新形态新范式,提供思想、技术和方法,引领和推动实现绿色低碳的生产方式和生活方式。《共识》呼吁,全球大学、科研机构、中小学和社会各界携手行动,尽快实践新地学教育,促进人与自然和谐共生。

校党委书记黄晓玫说,伴随着传统地球科学向地球系统科学迈进,特别是科学领域在更多地从深地、深空、深海、深时不同向度揭示宜居地球形成和演化的规律,关注人与自然生命共同体的持续发展,传统的地学教育迫切需要实现转型升级,形成新形态新范式。要从儿童和青年少抓起,从小就引导树立珍爱地球、保护共同家园的思想观念;职业教育要融入生态文明理念,致力于引领绿色的生产方式,比如在自然资源领域,要更多突出绿色钻采、绿色开发;高等教育要培养复合型、创新型人才,为解决地球科学领域的复杂科学与技术问题提供更好支撑;面向社会公众,要加强宜居地球的科学知识普及,共同践行绿色的生活方式,共同推动人与自然和谐共生。

校长王焰新院士说,近年来,学校积极探索地球科学领域复合型、创新型人才培养改革,先后成立李四光学院、未来技术学院,并设立“遥感科学与技术”“健康地学”“人工智能与地球探测”“绿色矿业”“自然灾害与应急管理”“自然资源与国土空间规划”“碳中和与高质量发展管理”“地学大数据”等交叉学科研究生学位点,形成了跨学科专业交叉融合、教学与科研实践融合、创新创业与专业教育融合的地学教育模式。10年前,我们发起成立了国际地球科学大学联盟,作为一所地球科学为主要特色的“双一流”大学,我们有责任引领地学教育的发展方向,我们希望和国内外高水平大学一道,共同推动地学教育创新,共同促进宜居地球的可持续发展。

Wuhan Consensus: An Initiative for a New Geoscience Education

地球是浩瀚宇宙间已知的唯一能维系物种生息繁衍的宜居星球。作为智慧物种的人类栖居于地球,从地球获取赖以生存和发展的能源资源,人类的共同命运决定于地球的宜居性。由于地球自身演变和人类活动的共同作用,全球能源资源短缺、环境污染、气候变化、灾害频发、生态破坏持续加剧,地球的宜居性正受到前所未有的严峻挑战。

The Earth is the only known habitable planet for various species to live and propagate in the vast universe. As an intelligent species, human beings inhabit the Earth and abstract energy resources from it for survival and development. A shared future for mankind is determined by the habitability of the Earth. Due to the combined effects of the Earth’s own evolution and anthropogenic changes, a global shortage of energy resources, environmental pollution, climate change, frequent disasters and ecological damage become increasingly serious, threatening the livability of the Earth at unprecedented rates.

值此时刻,我们——来自地球科学和相关学科的学者、中外大学和中小学校长——齐聚武汉,共商宜居地球的重大科学问题,共话地学教育的使命和责任。我们一致认为发展新地学教育刻不容缓,决定共同发布“武汉共识:新地学教育倡议”

At this moment, we, scholars from Earth Science and related disciplines, university presidents and school principals from inside and outside China, gathered in Wuhan to engage in discussions on the major scientific challenges for a habitable Earth, and on the mission and commitments of geoscience education. Acknowledging the urgency of the issue, we hereby jointly release the Wuhan Consensus: An Initiative for a New Geoscience Education.

Our Mission: Advocating and Implementing a Brand-New Geoscience Education

现代地球科学取得诸多重要进展,全面迈进地球系统科学时代,正在把目光投向深地、深海、深空和深时,研究宜居地球的过去、现在和未来。顺应科学发展和时代呼唤,我们有责任倡导并实践一种全新的地学教育。这种全新的地学教育主张:(1)多元宇宙观,把世界看作是不同时空尺度的多元物质存在,生命、非生命物质和各种力量在多元时空尺度下相互依存、相互作用;(2)重新认识和定义人类在世界的位置和生存方式,人类以外的世界不再只是客体和研究对象,我们需要学习更加温和地与之交往、共生共存;(3)遵循地球系统科学理论的世界观和方法论,调整和优化地学教育的价值体系、知识体系和传播体系,提供思想、技术和方法,引领绿色低碳的生产方式和生活方式。

Modern Earth Science has made significant progresses and entered into the era of Earth System Science, with a focus on studying the past, present and future of a habitable Earth by looking into the deep Earth, deep sea, deep space and deep time. In response to the advancement of science and the call of the times, we are obliged to advocate and implement a new paradigm of geoscience education that:

1) champions the multiverse outlook, in which the world is perceived as a conglomeration of multi-universes with different time and space scales, where living and nonliving matters as well as various forces are interdependent and interact.

2) produces a renewed perception and definition of the role of mankind and its position and living style in the world. The non-human world shall no longer be viewed as a mere object or a research subject; instead, it is advisable for human beings to be educated about milder-mannered interaction and co-existence with the non-human world for an optimal integration.

3) follows the worldview and methodology of Earth System Science. It adjusts and optimizes the value system, knowledge system and dissemination system of geoscience education, and provides theories, technologies and methods to lead green and low-carbon production and life styles.

我们的任务:

调整和优化地学教育的框架

Our Task: Adjusting and Optimizing the Framework of Geoscience Education

 ——重塑地学教育的价值体系。超越“人类中心主义”,摒弃把获取关于地球的知识作为实现人类生存和发展目标手段的工具性价值观,更多地传授和学习如何更好地与地球和谐相处。超越“人类例外论”,摒弃那些相信仅凭人类智慧和技术能够保护乃至拯救地球的各种观念,更多地传授和学习如何更好地与人类以外的世界共生共存。

We shall reshape the value system of geoscience education. The new geoscience education has to transcend anthropocentrism, dismissing the utilitarian idea of acquiring the knowledge of geosciences solely as the means to guarantee human survival and development. It will teach and explore the ways of how human beings could better get along with the Earth. The new geoscience education has to transcend the paradigm of human exceptionalism by rejecting the ideology that human ingenuity and technology alone can protect and even save the planet and promoting teaching and exploring means of better cooperation and mutual restoration with the non-human world.

——重构地学教育的知识体系。人类一直在寻求关于地球及其组成部分、地球构造和演化规律的科学认识,形成了地质学、地球物理学、地理学、大气科学、海洋科学等专门学科,以及带有学科特色的知识体系和研究方法。新地学教育将按照认识和研究宜居地球的需要,对这些专门学科的知识进行体系化重构,并融入科学和技术的最新进展,持续开发新的课程和知识模块。

We shall reconstruct the knowledge system of geoscience education. Human beings have been seeking scientific understanding of the Earth, its components, structure and rules of evolution, establishing specialized disciplines such as Geology, Geophysics, Geography, Atmospheric Science and Marine Science, as well as their knowledge systems and research methodologies with disciplinary distinction. In accordance with the need to understand and study a habitable Earth, the new geoscience education has to conduct systematic reconstruction of the knowledge system of current disciplines and integrate the latest advances in science and technology to continuously develop new curricula and knowledge modules.

——创新地学知识的传播体系。基于地球系统科学发展的规律,学习者学习和认知的规律,分门别类地研究如何更加有效地面向不同受众传播地球科学知识、传递人与自然和谐共生观念,使地学教育与地球系统科学自身一样成为科学和艺术。

We shall innovate the education system of earth sciences. Based on the innate laws of earth system science and the cognitive rules of learners, we shall conduct research on more efficient dissemination of geoscience knowledge and the philosophy of harmonious co-existence between man and nature to a wide range of audiences. We shall make geoscience education a combination of science and art, a prominent feature the Earth System Science has demonstrated.

我们的目标:

形成地学教育新形态新范式

Our Goal: Developing a New Paradigm of Geoscience Education

——形成更加多元的地学教育。形成精准对接不同受众的多元教育范式,地学教育在基础教育、中等职业教育、高等教育和社会公众教育领域分工协作、有效衔接;面向不同受众提供的一整套价值伦理、思想观念、知识体系和技术方法相辅相成、相得益彰。

More diversified. A pluralistic educational paradigm should be established to precisely fit different audiences. Collaborations among different tiers of geoscience education are marked with a due division of labor and effective interconnectedness through elementary education, secondary vocational education, higher education and public education. Targeting different audiences, the new geoscience education shall provide a whole set of values and ethics, views and ideas, knowledge systems and technical approaches that function in an accommodating and complementary manner.

——形成更加综合的地学教育。地学教育不再在传统学科专业的藩篱之内开展。地球系统科学的各分支学科之间,地球科学与数学、物理学、化学、生命科学、信息科学、哲学社会科学等诸学科之间的跨学科、跨领域学习研究成为常态。

More comprehensive. Geoscience education will no longer be conducted within the barriers of traditional disciplines. Inter-disciplinary and trans-boundary studies between Earth System Science and the various disciplines such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Life Science, Information Science, Philosophy and Social Science will become the new normal.

——形成更加开放的地学教育。世界变乱交织,人类在地球系统科学和地学教育的旗帜下摒弃偏见、紧密合作。更进一步,地学教育不再只是把人类以外的世界作为学习探究的对象,而是作为一种共存和融为一体的情境体验,成为一种超越人类的教学合作。

More inclusive. Under the banner of Earth System Science and geoscience education, human beings will abandon prejudice and cooperate closely despite continual upheaval and turbulence in the world. Furthermore, geoscience education will no longer take the non-human world solely as the object of study, but rather as a scenario of experience for co-existence and integration, developing a pedagogical collaboration that transcends human beings.

地球的宜居性在“人类世”受损的岁月久矣。是时候倡导、推动并实践全新的地学教育,使人类重新定位和回归到宜居地球的众多参与者和塑造者之一了!全球大学、科研机构、中小学和社会各界的有识之士们,携起手来!!还来得及!!!

The habitability of the Earth has long been wrecked in the “Anthropocene”. It is high time to initiate, facilitate and practice a brand-new geoscience education that helps to reposition humanity as one of the multitudinous participants and builders of a habitable Earth. Friends of insight from all over the world, in universities, scientific research institutions, primary and secondary schools and in other walks of life, let’s work together in solidarity before it is too late!
