History has not left the art form to us only to be squandered. 它不仅只是作为博物馆里研究历史文化、社会科学史料的真正收藏品。作为中国造型艺术传统的重要组成部分,它所具有的人类最为本源的精神特质及其创造本能体现在艺术中的生机,对于今天振奋中国主流艺术疲乏虚弱的肌体,无疑是一种极有益的调节和滋补。如果说中国的艺术迟早要以它自己的面目出现在世界,那么,从本土的民族民间文化中起步,也会是一条充满希望的路。 It is not solely a tangible collection in museums for historical and cultural studies and other social science disciplines. Rather, as an important part of Chinese plastic art tradition, Chinese folk woodcut prints feature the spiritual characteristics— the most fundamental ones among all— of mankind. These characteristics, along with the projection of human instincts to create in art, would undoubtedly empower and nourish the process of revitalizing the sluggish and weak mainstream art in China.
