What is A Futureproof City?

It is one that focuses on creating adaptability and resilience in the face of the unknown challenges resulting from technological change, population explosion, global pandemic, and environmental crisis. The book discusses relevant statistics and case studies from both developed and developing countries and brings to the fore many new solutions currently being proposed and piloted globally, identifying ten key areas affecting the physical fabric of our cities where governments, planners, investors, and the individuals responsible for shaping lives can refocus their understanding, priorities, and funding in order to more effectively utilize the limited financial, natural, and time resources available.

Barry Wilson is an internationally qualified, multi skilled, design, construction and dispute resolution professional with 35 years of global experience in the private sector. In 2012 he received award from the China International Urbanization Development Strategy Research Committee for his contribution to China's urbanisation transformation and was awarded the Reed Malik Medal from the Institution of Civil Engineers in 2019. He is a Fellow of both the Hong Kong Institute of Urban Design and Hong Kong Institute of Landscape Architects and is Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Hong Kong. His consultancy practice, Barry Wilson Project Initiatives has been tackling urbanisation issues in Hong Kong and China for over 25 years. www.initiatives.com.hk
