Tesla has sold a significant chunk of its stake in Bitcoin, adding $936 million of cash to its balance sheet.

CEO Elon Musk said his company sold the tokens to maximize its cash position because of uncertainty related to Covid shutdowns, adding that it should not be seen as "some verdict on Bitcoin."

Tesla disclosed a $1.5 billion investment in Bitcoin in February 2021, and Musk's embrace has helped serve as a catalyst for the digital currency. It's currently trading at around $23,000 down from a record high of almost $69,000 in November.
