# 写在前面
坂本龙一是日本当代最具国际影响力的音乐家之一。无论你之前是否熟悉「坂本龙一」这个名字，你一定听过他的作品：Merry Christmas Mr.Lawrance。每当这首曲子在冬夜里响起，都会有一种暖融融的感觉泛上心头。
坂本龙一先生去世的消息，也登上了英美各大媒体的头条。我选了几则报道，带同学们读一读。
# 卫报
坂本龙一是日本最成功的音乐家之一，凭借其在“黄色魔术交响乐团”乐队中的出色表现以及个人音乐专辑和电影配乐享誉国际。
1️⃣ pioneer 作名词，指「先锋，先驱，带头人」。the Japanese pop pioneer 即「日本流行音乐先驱」。
pioneer 作动词，指「开创，倡导」(to be the first person to do, invent or use something)。
以后我们想表达创新、发明、率先做某事，就可以用pioneer这个词，替换掉小学生词汇invent sth, create sth。
比如外媒一篇关于《乘风破浪的姐姐》的文章有这样一句话：
The casting of older female stars in a reality TV show was pioneered by South Korean TV station KBS, which aired Sister’s Slam Dunk in 2016.韩国KBS电视台首先开创了以年长女性为主要阵容的真人秀模式——2016年的《姐姐们的Slam Dunk》。
关于pioneer还有一个高频表达：pioneer ways of doing sth 指「开创方法做某事」。
比如《经济学人》一篇关于北欧性别平等的状况的文章里有这样一句话：Iceland is pioneering ways to get more mothers back to work, to root out gender stereotypes, and to close the pay gap.
冰岛正开创方法，引导更多母亲返回职场，根除性别刻板印象，缩小收入差距。
《经济学人》一篇关于印度和印尼发展的文章也用到了这个表达：
You truly a pioneer!
I pioneered the use of cameras embedded in goalposts for football coverage.
compose 为动词，指「作曲，创作音乐」，也可指「写」信、诗、讲稿等等。
He's a composer.
acclaimed 常与highly, widely 搭配，be highly acclaimed 备受推崇的，be widely acclaimed 广受欢迎的。
再比如「享誉国际的」，我们可以说internationally acclaimed。
《今日美国》 一篇关于Netflix将改遍《三体》的文章便曾用acclaimed形容作者刘慈欣：
Netflix is bringing the world of acclaimed Chinese author Liu Cixin's "The Three-Body Problem" to life in a new series adaptation of the science fiction trilogy, the streaming service announced Tuesday.
比如《金融时报》一篇关于巴西总统的文章有这样一句话：
Lula won international acclaim for reducing poverty in one of the world’s most unequal countries.卢拉因在世界上最不平等的国家之一减少贫困而赢得国际赞誉。
film scores 指「电影配乐」。score 这里是个熟词僻义，指「配乐」。score 还可作动词，指「给...配乐」。
《经济学人》关于坂本龙一去世的报道里就用到了score的动词用法：
Mr Sakamoto is known for founding the synth-pop band Yellow Magic Orchestra and scoring films including “Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence” and “The Revenant”. 坂本龙一因创立合成器流行乐队“黄色魔术交响乐团”，以及为《战场上的快乐圣诞》、《荒野猎人》等电影配乐而享誉国际。
5️⃣有同学看到这则标题会问了：坂本龙一先生已经去世了，为什么要用一般现在时dies，而不是一般过去时died呢？
这其实是新闻标题独特的时态表现方式：采用一般现在时以表示事件刚刚发生，凸显消息的即时性和冲击力。
再举个例子，去年《纽约时报》在报道安倍晋三去世时，标题也用的是dies：
6️⃣ aged+数字 是一个形容词短语，指「...岁」。

The renowned Japanese composer and producer Ryuichi Sakamoto, admired for his electronic music experimentation, has died aged 71.
凭借电子音乐实验享有盛名的日本作曲家和制作人坂本龙一逝世，终年71岁。
maestro [ˈmaɪstrəʊ] 是意大利语里master的意思，指「大师，音乐大师」。
renowned 为形容词，指「有名的，闻名的，受尊敬的」(famous and respected)。介词搭配为be renowned for sth。
比如《经济学人》一篇关于中国足球的文章有这样一句话：
Guangzhou Evergrande, a club renowned for its profligacy, took in only a third of the 2.9bn yuan ($450m) that it spent in 2019.以出手阔绰闻名的广州恒大在2019年支出29亿元，而收入只有支出的三分之一。
很多同学一想到「有名的」，脑子就只能蹦出famous这个词，而经常读外刊的同学就会发现，外刊里有很多可以替换famous的词汇，比如我们前面遇到过的acclaimed, renowned, 还有celebrated, well-known, noted, prominent等等，平时多阅读、多积累，写作时才能灵活地替换使用。
# NPR
1️⃣ trailblazing这个词非常形象，我们展开讲一讲：
blaze 作动词，本来是「熊熊燃烧」的意思，blaze a trail 烧出一条路，喻指 「作开路先锋，创新」(to develop or do something new and important, or to do something important that no one has done before)。
比如：The department is blazing a trail in the field of laser surgery. 这个部⻔正在为激光外科学领域开辟一条新路。
再比如《经济学人》一篇关于大数据的文章有这样一句话：
Where tech companies have blazed a trail, others have followed. Consumer brands in every industry collect data on their customers to improve design and advertise products and services. 科技公司开疆拓土，其他各方也紧随其 后。各行各业的消费品牌都在收集客户数据，用以改进设计、宣传产品及服 务。
trailblazing 是形容词形式，指「先驱的，创始的，开创性的」(A trail-blazing idea, event, or organization is new, exciting, and original)。
trailblazer 为名词，指「开路人，先驱」，和pioneer可同义替换。
比如《经济学人》一篇关于人工智能的文章有这样一句话：
In December UI Path, a trailblazing Romanian startup in the area, filed for an initial public offering.去年12月，该领域的领头羊、罗马尼亚创业公司UI Path申请上市。
Celebrating Lunar New Year in China has traditionally meant setting off firecrackers, eating dumplings and watching the Spring Festival Gala. Now, more and more, going to the movies with family is being incorporated into that tradition. 在中国，过春节意味着发鞭炮，吃饺子，看春晚。而现在，和家人一起看电影也渐渐成为了传统的一部分。
According to employment website Lagou, demand for live streaming hosts surged by almost 50 percent in the first half of this year. Municipal governments have been trying to incorporate the trend in their development plans. 根据就业网站拉勾网的数据，今年上半年，直播主播的需求猛增了近50%。各市政府一直努力在其发展计划中纳入这一趋势。
开创，创新：pioneer sth, blaze a trail
先锋的，前卫的：trailblazing, pioneering
开创新方法做某事：pioneer new ways to do sth
有名的：acclaimed, renowned, celebrated, well-known, noted, prominent
大师：maestro
