中英双语:《领悟清东陵古建筑之美背后蕴涵的建筑艺术思想》之二:百尺为形 千尺为势

清东陵各单体建筑的面阔(宽度)、高度及其近观视距的控制,都是以“百尺为形”为原则。

The principle of‘Exquisite at a hundred feet close, grandeur at a thousandfeet distant’influenced the measurements of height, width, gaps, and viewing distances for every unit, ensuring a harmonious balance between intricate details up close and a sense of grandness when viewed from a distance.

“百尺”合现在尺度约为23—35米。

A hundred feet is approximately 23-25 meters.

 比如我们来观赏面前的这栋五间六柱十一楼式石牌坊。这座建筑宽在百尺上下,即为“百尺之形”。

For example, the Stone arch(ShiPaiFang)consists of six columns and eleven arches, with five spaces between each pair of columns. It was built to adhere to the principle of being ‘Exquisite at a hundred feet close’.

 它的构图与造型重在外部表现,颇多匠心。

我们在距其百尺的距离观赏它时,可以看到它的外部轮廓挺拔高耸,变化丰富,又空透轻灵、错落有致;

The Stone Arch (ShiPaiFang) was constructed to emphasize the exquisite exterior. Upon close inspection, one can observe well-defined and varied contours, alongside a light and agile structure, displaying a rich and diverse pattern.

 洁白的汉白玉质地细腻,各种纹饰图案精美,使我们获得丰富生动又亲切可人的空间感受效果。

The intricately carved white jade exudes a sense of luxury, captivating tourists with its vividness and immersing them in its beauty.

 以“百尺为形”来控制单体建筑高度和宽度,能切合人的视觉生理与心理,使人百尺以内的近距离观赏该建筑时,既能很好的观赏其建筑立面和局部细节,又能在空间围合方面获得完整的效果,使建筑本身富于“人情味”和亲切感。

By regulating the height and width of each individual unit according to the rule, catering to the visual and psychological preferences of tourists, one can appreciate both the facade and the intricate details of the building when observing it up close within a hundred feet. This allows for a complete sense of spatial enclosure and creates an immersive experience.

清东陵的外部空间设计还十分注重建筑的远景效果,于是古代哲匠以“千尺为势”的尺度来控制远观视距。从而避免各单体建筑的百尺之形在远观时失之于空旷和疏远感,同时使之具有远观时整体感受上的宏大气势和魄力。

The exterior design and the distant view of The Eastern Qing Tombs(QingDongLing) was carefully considered by architects in the Qing dynasty as well— it was built strictly under the principle of ‘grandeur at a thousand feet distant' to ensure that a sense of magnificence could be exuded without any feelings of emptiness or detachment between its units.

千尺合现在尺度约230-350米。

A thousand feet is around 230-250meters.

我们以石牌坊和大红门为例,这两座建筑面阔均在百尺左右,均为“百尺之形”。

The width of both the Stone Arch (ShiPaiFang) and the Great Red Gate (DaHongMen) is around 100 feet.

从这两座建筑的关系来看,近在百尺之处的石牌坊为“形”,大红门距离石牌坊240米,远在千尺之处,为“势”。

The Stone Arch (ShiPaiFang), located a hundred feet away, takes on the role of being 'exquisite up close,' while the Great Red Gate (DaHongMen) is positioned 240 meters/a thousand feet from the Stone Arch, representing ‘grandeur from a distance'.

我们透过洁白的石牌坊的中间门框来观赏大红门这个“千尺之势”时,可以看到大红门在厚重的红色实墙上开辟出为三座门洞券,墙体承托着雄大的黄琉璃庑殿顶,大红门两侧连缀风水墙

When looking at the Great Red Gate through the columns of ShiPaiFang, we'll notice three gates on the thick red wall. The wall is topped with a hip roof adorned with shining yellow glazed tiles, and stone screens are present on each side of the wall.

以“千尺之势”成为石牌坊的对景,有力地衬托出石牌坊的高大。石牌坊的“镜框效应”又强化并突出了大红门的质朴庄重、敦实稳定的整体形象。

The Great Red Gate (DaHongMen) and the Stone Arch (ShiPaiFang) create the perfect contrast of each other, with The Great Red Gate highlighting the Stone Arch's prominence. While the Stone Arch acts as a frame, emphasizing the serene and solemn atmosphere of the Great Red Gate.

从整体上看,石牌坊与大红门的空间组合,其间高低、纵横、敞闭、虚实以及颜色、质地对比映衬,十分凝练。这两座“百尺之形”的建筑虽处开阔之地,即使在千尺距离远观却既未令人感觉空旷,建筑也未显体量卑小,空间的气势,建筑的气韵具有很强的艺术感染力。

The Stone Arch (ShiPaiFang) and the Great Red Gate (DaHongMen) form a cohesive whole with their architectural features. The contrasting colors and textures enhance their overall unity. Despite their imposing width of nearly a hundred feet, these structures gracefully occupy the open space without feeling empty or overpowering from a distance. The way they interact with the surrounding space creates a compelling artistic allure.

古代建筑哲匠精准的把握“百尺为形、千尺为势”的精髓,在千尺之限内,按“百尺为形”来布置单体建筑,进行空间组合,把整个组群空间划分成若干既相对独立,而整体上又有机统一的群体集合。

Architects of the Qing dynasty skillfully captured the essence of "exquisite in close, grandeur in distant." They meticulously arranged each unit, ensuring individuality up close while maintaining overall integrity from afar.

这样,陵寝建筑群既能在整体上显现出一气呵成的性格特色,在远观时也能使百尺之形的单体建筑不失空旷疏远,又能具有宜人的空间感受效果。

By following the principle, The Eastern Qing tombs(QingDongLing)-the imperial mausoleum complex of the Qing dynasty- were constructed harmoniously and echoing with surroundings; Each unit was orderly connected to each other, creating an artistic existence when viewed from a distance.

同时,移步其间,在远、中、近的不同层次上,更能在“形”与“势”的时空转换中予人一系列不同感受而引起情感变化,形成富于戏剧性的丰富生动和连续不断的空间艺术感受效果,获得深刻而完整的审美体验。

Distinct feelings are evoked in tourists as they walk from a distance and approach closer; a myriad of yet consistent artistic impressions are created, resulting in a truly remarkable and unique experience.
